Extremely low frequency plasmons in metallic mesostructures.

چکیده
The plasmon is a well established collective excitation of metals in the visible and near UV, but at much lower frequencies dissipation destroys all trace of the plasmon and typical Drude behavior sets in. We propose a mechanism for depression of the plasma frequency into the far infrared or even GHz band: Periodic structures built of very thin wires dilute the average concentration of electrons and considerably enhance the effective electron mass through self-inductance. Computations replicate the key features and confirm our analytic theory. The new structure has novel properties not observed before in the GHz band, including some possible impact on superconducting properties. [S0031-9007(96)00491-7]

Observation of a Luttinger-liquid plasmon in metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes
Surface plasmons1, collective oscillations of conduction electrons, hold great promise for the nanoscale integration of photonics and electronics1–4. However, nanophotonic circuits based on plasmons have been significantly hampered by the difficulty in achieving broadband plasmonic waveguides that simultaneously exhibit strong spatial confinement, a high quality factor and low dispersion. Quant...
متن کاملNanofabrication of highly ordered, tunable metallic mesostructures via quasi-hard-templating of lyotropic liquid crystals
The synthesis of metal frameworks perforated with nanotunnels is a challenge because metals have high surface energies that favor low surface area structures; traditional liquid-crystal templating techniques cannot achieve the synthetic control required. We report a synthetic strategy to fabricate metal nanomaterials with highly ordered, tunable mesostructures in confined systems based on a new...

In this paper, the interaction between an oscillating dipole moment and a Silver nanoparticle has been studied. Our calculations are based on Mie scattering theory and discrete dipole approximation(DDA) method. At first, the resonance frequency due to excitingthe localized surface plasmons has been obtained using Mie scattering theory and then by exciting a dipole moment in theclose proximity of...
متن کاملDirect probe of linearly dispersing 2D interband plasmons in a free-standing graphene monolayer
In low-dimensional systems, a detailed understanding of plasmons and their dispersion relation is crucial for applying their optical response in the field of plasmonics. Electron energyloss spectroscopy is a direct probe of these excitations. Here we report on electron energy-loss spectroscopy results on the dispersion of the π plasmons in free-standing graphene monolayers at the momentum range...
متن کاملLong range plasmon assisted all-optical switching at telecommunication wavelengths.
We exploit the properties of ultranarrow, Fano-like resonances generated by the coupling of long range surface plasmons with ultrathin (~10 nm), metallic, subwavelength gratings embedded in a nonlinear, cubic material to obtain all-optical switching at telecommunication wavelengths for extremely low input power. We provide an example of a silver metallic grating embedded in a chalcogenide glass...
